Nathan Fillion (born March 27, 1971) is a Canadian-American actor. He played the leading roles of Captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds on Firefly and its film continuation Serenity and Richard Castle on Castle. As of 2018, he stars as John Nolan on The Rookie and is an executive producer on the show as well as its spin-off series, The Rookie: Feds. Fillion has acted in traditionally distributed films like Slither and Trucker, Internet-distributed films like Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, television soap operas, sitcoms, and theatre. His voice is featured in animation and video games, such as the Bungiegames Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, Destiny, and Destiny 2, along with the 343 Industries game Halo 5: Guardians and the television series M.O.D.O.K. (2021). Fillion first gained recognition for his work on One Life to Live in the contract role of Joey Buchanan, for which he was nominated for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series, as well as for his supporting role as Johnny Donnelly in the sitcom Two Guys and a Girl. Nathan Fillion ist ein kanadisch-US-amerikanischer Schauspieler, geboren am 27. März 1971 in Edmonton, Alberta. Berühmt wurde er vor allem durch seine Rolle als Captain Malcolm Reynolds in der Science-Fiction-Serie Firefly – Der Aufbruch der Serenity (2002–2003) und dem dazugehörigen Film Serenity – Flucht in neue Welten (2005). Seinen internationalen Durchbruch schaffte Fillion als Richard Castle in der Krimiserie Castle, die von 2009 bis 2016 ausgestrahlt wurde. Seit 2018 spielt er die Hauptrolle des John Nolan in der erfolgreichen Polizeiserie The Rookie. Weitere bekannte Auftritte hatte er in der Seifenoper Liebe, Lüge, Leidenschaft, für die er einen Daytime Emmy Award erhielt. Im Kino war er u.a. in Der Soldat James Ryan, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 & 3, The Suicide Squad und Cars 3 – Evolution zu sehen. Fillion stammt aus einer Familie von Englischlehrern und wollte ursprünglich selbst Lehrer werden, entschied sich dann aber für eine Schauspielkarriere. Er studierte an der Universität Alberta mit dem Ziel, Schauspiellehrer zu werden, und finanzierte sein Studium durch Theaterauftritte. Sein Engagement reicht über die Schauspielerei hinaus: Er engagiert sich sozial und gründete die Organisation "Kids Need to Read".
