Al demande à Carrie de l'aider sur une affaire de meurtre : un couple a été tué par balles alors qu'il se trouvait dans la cuisine de son domicile. Les victimes avaient un fils, âgé de 7 ans, censé suivre un entraînement sportif au moment du drame. Carrie découvre rapidement l'enfant caché sur la propriété familiale, en état de choc. Cette enquête donne l'occasion à la jeune femme de rencontrer Elaine, la nouvelle compagne de Al.
