When a wealthy wine importer is found dead in his cellar after hosting a tasting of two hundred year-old wine, Goren and Eames uncover the conspiratorial workings of a high-end auction house. The guests of the tasting, a sexy grifter couple, and the victim's wife are brought into suspicion as deeper investigations reveal the victim's true nature and new motives come to light.

Bing et Avery Cullman vivent mariés depuis de nombreuses années. Leur couple a traversé de nombreuses épreuves mais reste pourtant soudé. Un soir, alors que son épouse participe à un gala de mode, Bing en profite pour déguster, avec quelques invités, des crus millésimés. Mais lorsque ses convives le quittent, l'homme est victime d'une crise cardiaque. Seul dans son cellier, il succombe à son malaise. Lorsqu'ils examinent le cadavre, les légistes découvrent que Bing est mort empoisonné. Goren et Eames se saisissent de l'affaire et apprennent que la victime vendait des bouteilles de vin contrefaites aux enchères. Le mobile du meurtrier apparaît désormais très clair...
