A millionaire philanthropist is reported missing after announcing the winner of his highly coveted medical research grant. Goren and Eames determine homicide when the investigation reveals the victim's body was switched with a medical cadaver from the very institute he was funding.

Ben Langston, un millionnaire philanthrope, voue une passion pour la médecine. Dans le prestigieux Bedford Institue, tout le monde s'affaire autour de lui afin de l'impressionner. Car Ben Langston n'hésite pas à financer généreusement les nouveaux projets et attribue une bourse de 20 millions de dollars à des chercheurs méritants. Mais après avoir accordé cette aide, le généreux donateur disparaît soudainement. Les détectives Goren et Eames prennent l'affaire en main et découvrent qu'il a été assassiné puis incinéré à la place d'un autre. Les policiers s'introduisent alors dans le monde de la recherche médicale, un univers très fermé où les chercheurs sont en concurrence...
